Recently, I got the chance to be among the sporting elite and hang out in the Seattle Mariners Diamond Club at Safeco Field. Last Fall, when we celebrated my son Austin's 9-year-old birthday at the ballpark, I toured this fine establishment, and I discovered the price of admission: $16,200 - $26,325 per seat (season tickets). If you're a Sports Widow and have the right contacts (in my case, my business partner, the Sports Widow Coach), this is the ONLY way to go: The pampered way. You get to eat & drink anything you like, as well as sample Cracker Jacks and an ice cream sundae bar. There are big screen TVs everywhere, you don't have to cough up any money (because you had a benefactor) AND you're right off home plate with in-and-out privileges to the third row in the stadium just behind home plate. I mostly concentrated on my own home plate, serving myself food and drinks and calling them heavy hors d'oeuvres since this somehow makes me feel more dainty and restrained. Because the Mariners were doing so poorly, there were lots of people who chose to watch the game from inside the Diamond Club. Anyway, we befriended Janie the Bartender, and asked her to help us create a signature Sports Widow Cocktail, and here's what we came up with.
How to Make a Sports Widow® Cocktail
Nan Hall & Bartender Janie's Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 Lime (Muddled)
1 1/2 ounce Absolut® Vodka
3/4 ounce DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker® Schnapps
Splash of Baja Bob's Sweet & Sour Mix®
Splash of Ocean Spray® 100% Cranberry Juice
DIRECTIONS:
In a cocktail shaker muddle ½ lime
Add 6-8 ice cubes
Combine all ingredients, and shake well
Strain mixture into a chilled, stemmed cocktail glass
Garnish with lemon twist
Makes 1 cocktail
Two gentleman who were seated at the bar laughed when we told them about our new concoction and about sportswidow.com . One told us a sports fan sob story: His wife gave him the Honey Do of removing stumps from the yard right smack in the middle of his beloved Washington Huskies game. He and his son were forced to listen to the game via an outside radio. The other gentleman was a family lawyer who's first wife had divorced him, in part, because of his Sports Addiction.
Funny that Janie would help us create a signature Sports Widow® Cocktail with a sour edge to it. Hmmmmm.
If you designed your version of a Sports Widow® Cocktail, what would your recipe be?
