Little League Benefactor With Strings Attached

Today’s my day off from work. (I am a marketing professional in health care and, happily, work a 32-hour week, which permits me to live in the delusion that I can cram all personal/family needs into a single day of the week.) The first item on the agenda was to take a homemade banana cake to one of the local jewelers. This jeweler offered to donate a generous sum of money to our cause IF we satisfied his request for baked goods, but these weren’t just any baked goods; he was very specific.

Snowflake Cake

It was akin to honoring the request of The Godfather I can hear a hoarse Marlon Brando now, cotton balls stuffed in his cheeks: “I’d like a loaf of banana bread, a banana cake, and, and then, I’ll be your benefactor.”

Anyway, I don’t know what the outcome was, because Mr. Jewel wasn’t there at the time of the delivery. Austin looked a bit disappointed that the cake/cash exchange wasn’t immediate. I thought we’d at least get a tennis bracelet or some zircon. But, instead, I got my rings cleaned, and we were off to our next adventure: an aquatic park.

BTW, I used a recipe from Joy of Cooking. I baked a small test pan to check out the taste since this was new to me. Banana bread is a common baked good in our house, but not banana cake. Anyway, it was great.
