The Sports Widow Goes to Washington, D.C., The Other Washington

I lived and worked in Washington, DC, for seven years, so you would THINK that I would know better than to arrange a family vacation during the month of August, but this was the only time that was convenient. Another incentive was that we were fortunate enough to have free lodging both in the Oakton, Virginia area with my sister-in-law Helen and in the Virgina Beach area with my brother Jeff. Washington, DC is a special place for me because this is where I met my sports fan husband Bryan. It will be a walk down memory lane for me personally and for me as The Sports Widow.

The plane ride was terrific, because I wound up sitting by myself. I pretended that I had no family and ignored the frequent strife in the row in front of me: "Those rambunctious children - who's in charge of them anyway?" Being the movie lover that I am, I rented one of those portable movie players and immersed myself in Juno, which lived up to it's reputation as a great movie, and Shutter, which was a mediocre and confusing horror movie. Nonetheless, I was a pig in mud.
We warned our children that the weather would feel like a crawfish boil, with us being the unfortunate crawfish in the pot, but tonight was pretty pleasant. After a quick driving tour of the monuments, we landed at my sister-in-law's house and naturally turned on The Olympics to unwind. One fact is certain: The Olympics will follow The Sports Widow like a stalker on this trip.
